Ask your guide: do the elephants have time to socialise?
Elephants are naturally sociable and intelligent animals. Generally, if they are kept alone or denied social time with friends and family this will cause a great deal of stress, especially for cow (female) elephants who are never alone in the wild.
It has been proven that elephants in camps that are allowed time to socialise every day have greatly reduced stress levels. This may be an hour at lunchtime or during the night in the forest.
Just like humans, social interaction has many positive benefits.
